Welcome to Mrs. Hebert's page! This is my 21st(!) year teaching music, and my 12th at Lovejoy. My previous experience in music education includes 9 years as a middle and high school band director. I am a native of Metairie, LA, but I have lived in Texas for 18 years. I hold a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Louisiana State University - GEAUX TIGERS! - and a Master of Arts in Music Performance from Texas Woman's University. I have played the flute and piccolo for 34 years and it is my absolute favorite thing to do. My performance interests include extended flute techniques, music for flute choir, and music of the Baroque era, and I am a World Record holder for participating in the Piccolos and Patriots performance of John Philip Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever" by the largest group of piccolos in history on July 4, 2016! Yes, it was really LOUD!
As the elementary music specialist at Lovejoy Elementary School, I have had the pleasure of helping to develop the LISD Music Curriculum. This summer, I spent 3 weeks at SMU earning my Kodaly Level III certification. This method of music education focuses on literacy and ear training, in a developmentally appropriate sequence for elementary aged students. There are 3 levels to this training, so I am finished with the formal coursework for my studies, and it has been a truly wonderful experience! I also have the distinct honor of directing the Double L Music Ensemble (our campus based choir for 3rd and 4th grades) and co-directing the Lovejoy Children's Choir (our district choir for 4th, 5th, and 6th grades).
I am an avid seamstress and knitter, I love to read, and to spend time with my family: Husband Rob (we will celebrate our 22nd anniversary this December!), our 2nd Grade Twins, Madeleine and Ripley, and our cat, Betty:)
