Welcome to Team Tays!!
I am so excited to be your child’s 2017-2018 kindergarten teacher!! I wanted to briefly introduce myself and give you some background information.
I currently live in Lucas, Texas with my husband of almost 20 years and our two boys: Caiden who is in eleventh grade at Lovejoy High School and plays tennis and is active in both NHS and Young Men’s Service League; and Conner who is in tenth grade at Lovejoy High School and plays soccer and is involved in Young Men’s Service League. Both of our sons attended Lovejoy Elementary and we had the BEST experience there. We also have two very well loved Australian Shepherd dogs: MK who is seven years old and Georgia who is 2 years old…(in people years)!! I live close to the school so you may see me walking them around the area.
I earned my Bachelor of Psychology from University of Arkansas in 1996 and I earned my Master of Social Work degree in Mental Health and Family Therapy from Washington University in 1998. From there I worked in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings as a psychotherapist performing individual, group, child play therapy, and family therapy sessions as well as teaching parenting classes. For the past nine and a half years, I have been a Pre-K teacher at a school in Allen. I have both my teacher certification in EC-6 and English as a second language in the state of Texas. Through my work experience and raising my own two boys I have found a love for teaching and a love for working with children.
I firmly believe that my educational background and work as a therapist and as a teacher, have instilled in me qualities that an outstanding teacher should possess. I believe as a teacher my students are not only gaining cognitive input and knowledge, but my students are also growing emotionally, socially, and physically as well. It is my job to create a classroom environment that cultivates all four of these aspects of growth. I have a realization that EVERY student is unique and bringing wonderful qualities to the classroom family. My job is to help them realize that and grow and build upon their knowledge and their sense of self. My job is to accept and love every student for who they are so they will have a positive mind set and a willingness to learn. My job is to instill a higher order level of thinking so students will want to learn more and have a love of learning. Most importantly, I have a love for children and a love for life. I feel that it is a privilege to teach and be a role model for young learners. I realize how important it is to work with both the student and the student’s families for greater success.
