Music Teacher |
| I'm very excited to be starting my 6th year at Lovejoy and my th year of teaching! Prior to teaching elementary school, I was a middle and high school band director. I have been involved in school instrumental music since 4th grade and studied dance from the age of 3, so music has surrounded me my entire life. My goal is to inspire a love of music in all children - whether as a performer, or as a listener.
In music classes at Lovejoy, students will sing, dance, and play instruments in an effort to experience the vast elements and qualities of all aspects of music. Students in grades 2-5 will receive 15 minutes of integrated Music and PE in order to fulfill the State Requirements for weekly PE time.
I have played the flute for 28 years and am an active performer and clinician. I have played principal flute with the New Texas Symphony Orchestra, and perform in recitals, master classes, and other freelance "gigs" around the DFW Metroplex. I have performed at the Texas Music Educators' Association Convention, and twice at two National Flute Association Conventions, with the Brookhaven Flute choir, and once as the winner of the NFA Masterclass Competition. In December 2010 I performed the Chaminade Concertino for Flute with the Shreveport Civic Band in Shreveport, LA. I am also a composer and write for solo flute and for flute choir. My interests in music performance include 20th century music, American composers, extended flute techniques, music of the Baroque period (especially Bach), and the music of the Paris Conservatoire. It is my hope that I can lead all the students of Lovejoy by my example as an adult musician who has a lifelong desire to learn and improve my skills. |
