I'm very excited to be starting my 4th year at Lovejoy and my 13th year of teaching! Prior to teaching elementary school, I was a middle and high school band director. I have been involved in school instrumental music since 4th grade and studied dance from the age of 3, so music has surrounded me my entire life. My goal is to inspire a love of music in all children - whether as a performer, or as a listener.
In music classes at Lovejoy, students will sing, dance, and play instruments in an effort to experience the vast elements and qualities of all aspects of music. Because I have a personal interest in Musicology, students will also discover the history of music throughout the cultures of the world, and hear the stories and music of the world's great composers.
I have played the flute for 26 years and am an active performer. I currently play principal flute with the New Texas Symphony Orchestra, and perform in recitals, master classes, and other freelance "gigs" around the DFW Metroplex. I am also a composer and write for solo flute and for flute choir. My interests in music performance include 20th century music, American composers, extended flute techniques, music of the Baroque period (especially Bach), and the music of the Paris Conservatoire. It is my hope that I can lead all the students of Lovejoy by my example as an adult musician who has a lifelong desire to learn and improve my skills. |
