A Message From the Principalby Patty Jackson Good Thursday morning, Lovejoy Families, While it’s inconvenient getting children in and out of the building, I am excited for the much needed rain. I am certainly enjoying this cooler weather! Monday is a Holiday A reminder that there is no school this upcoming Monday. We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday, September 7th. I hope you all have fun family plans for your three day weekend! We are cooking out for my husband Steve’s 58th birthday. We are at the age that we certainly like celebrating another birthday! Early Dismissal A reminder that Friday, September 24th we will be dismissing at 12:00. So all children are allowed plenty of time to enjoy their lunch, we have sack lunches in the hot lunch line. Students wanting to purchase lunches will be escorted to the cafeteria to pick up their sack lunch and will enjoy lunch in their classroom or outdoors, depending on the weather. This is a great time to enjoy the great outdoors if it’s not too hot or raining. Purchased sack lunches include: A turkey or ham sandwich – wheat bread, an apple, baby carrots, animal and gold fish crackers, and milk or juice. Lovejoy High School Cheerleaders Offering The Lovejoy High School Cheerleaders are hosting their popular Jr. Leopard Cheer Clinic for grades K through 6th Saturday, September 18 from 2:00 to 5:00. Come join the fun, receive a cheer t-shirt and the opportunity to cheer on the sidelines with the L.H.S. Cheerleaders Leopard Friday, September 24, during a special time at the Varsity football game at Lovejoy High School. Registration ends Thursday, September 9. Contact Karen Drake at tim.drake@att.net for information and registration. Ice Cream Social The 16th of September is the PTA’s annual ice cream social. I hope you are planning on attending as it is a fun evening for both parents and children! We will enjoy ice cream and toppings in the cafeteria at 6:30. Volunteer Training If you are planning on volunteering this year, you might want to mark your calendar and attend the training in the cafeteria on Tuesday, September 7th at 9:00. The PTA sponsors this event and will walk you through the use of the various copiers, laminator, etc. A reminder that you must have completed a criminal background check and receive permission from the district before volunteering. You may visit the Lovejoy ISD website, under parent, to complete the paperwork. PTA Directory Cover Contest It is that time of year! Children may enter a contest to decorate the PTA Parent Directory. There are 4 winners – 1st and 2nd from grades Kindergarten through 2nd and 1st and 2nd place winners from grades 3 through 5. The deadline for entries is Friday, October 1st. Be sure to check your child’s Thursday Folder for more information. Curriculum Nights Curriculum Nights have been scheduled and we are looking forward to sharing information about your child’s new grade level. We respectfully request that you leave children at home, if at all possible. While it is great information for adults, children tend to get rather restless. Dates and locations for Curriculum Nights are: Tuesday, September 7th – Kindergarten – Gathering Spot – 6:00 Thursday, September 9th – 5th Grade – Gym – 6:00 (also Adventure Camp Meeting) Tuesday, September 14th – 3rd Grade – Gym – 6:00 Tuesday, September 14th – 4th Grade – Gym – 7:00 Monday, September 20th – GATE 10 - Lovejoy Elementary in the "Gathering Spot" 1st - 3rd grade parents - 6:00 - 6:45 4th & 5th grade parents - 7:00 - 7:45 Tuesday, September 21st – 1st Grade – Gym – 6:00 Thursday, September 23rd – 2nd Grade – Classrooms – 6:00 Leopard Friday Be sure to check your calendar for the upcoming Leopard Friday event. My hope is that we’ll all be gathering together for a pep rally, barbeque, and the Lovejoy High School Varsity football game on Friday, September 24th. Lunch Room – Guest Table Thanks in advance for using the guest tables when having lunch with your child. To assure our Leopards have enough room and are allowed to enjoy lunch with their classmates, we do request that you use the extra table for guests. Thanks again!
