A Message From the Principal

by Patty Jackson
May 10, 2012

Good morning, Lovejoy Families,

We have certainly enjoyed Children’s Book week this week.  Monday, the staff dressed up as a storybook character.  The office crew managed to find enough red striped shirts, and dressed up as   Waldo in the Where’s Waldo books. Our Leopards have been participating in “Camp Read” throughout the week and have enjoyed a QR code scavenger hunt around the library, book cart races, heard spooky stories, and had camp snacks.  Also, students may enter a bookmark contest.  These went home in last week’s Thursday Folder and are due on Friday.

Teacher Request Forms

As in the past, we are allowing parents to make requests for their children's next year's teachers.  The forms to make such a request are in this week's Thursday Folder.  Please take a moment to complete the form and return to us by Friday, May 18th, in the provided envelope.  We do ask that you provide us with names of your top three choices as at times, we must use your 2nd or 3rd choice due to scheduling, for example.   If three teachers' names are listed, and the first choice isn't possible, we will make the decision as to where to place your child.  Thanks so much for your input!

Change in Talent Show on Monday

Due to having a large number of 3rd graders participating in this year’s talent show, we’ve made the decision to have their performances at 8:30 Monday morning.  Originally, they were to join our 1st and 2nd graders at 1:15.  We hope you’ll be able to join us for both events.

Attention Parents of a Fifth Grader – Order Forms and Time Line Provided

Please take a moment to review the attached forms and timeline for our next year’s 6th graders.  You’ll find an order form for school supply packets, a planner order form, as well as a timeline of events.  The supply packet and planner order form are due by Friday, May 18th.  Thanks!

Two Lovejoy Teachers Retiring

We do have two of our Lovejoy teachers retiring this year.  Cindy Copeland, Lovejoy’s 3rd grade teacher will enjoy spending time with her twin grandbabies due in July.  What an exciting time!  Also retiring is Kay Sanders, our Digital Literacy Coach.  She is looking forward to spending time with her family and is planning her wedding for June.  We are so happy for Mrs. Sanders. While we are sorry to see them leave, we are excited for both ladies.  We hope you'll join us at their retirement reception on Wednesday, May 30th at 3:30 in Lovejoy's Gathering Spot. We are in the process of interviewing for these two ladies replacements and will keep you updated.
